MANILA, Philippines – On Wednesday, July 29, Microsoft’s free upgrade to Windows 10 went live, with 190 countries around the world able to download and upgrade eligible Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices or purchase brand new PCs and tablets with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Along with the launch of Windows 10, the new Windows Store and the Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) have become available as well.

Windows 10 touts itself as being fast and familiar, with a mix of well-known functions from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 combining in Windows 10 to provide functionality for everyone’s needs.

These include the new Start system, which combines the task bar with Windows Live Tiles for an enhanced user experience.

Windows 10 will also come with Windows Defender and Smart Screen to help safeguard against viruses, malware, and phishing.

For productivity, Cortana, the personal digital assistant, is here to help. There’s also the new Microsoft Edge browser, which has new functions that let users browse, read, mark up, and share the web.

Picking up Windows 10

Windows 10 can be picked up on most Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 PCs via an app downloaded onto your computer.

Simply click on the new app on your start bar, then sign up for Windows 10, and it’ll eventually download the upgrade for your computer. You can then install Windows 10 at your leisure.
