Sony unveils the a7S II camera
The a7S II comes with 4K recording and 5-axis stabilization

MANILA, Philippines – Sony made waves last year when they introduced the a7S, a mirrorless camera that’s great for low-light, but it fell short of being an all-rounder with 4K video recording requiring an external device.

The new a7S II is a step up from its predecessor, with it now being capable of internal 4K video recording through XAVC S codec at a bit rate of up to 100mbps. It also retains the max ISO of 409,600.

Apart from enabling large video recording, Sony employed a full pixel readout with no binning for clearer images and minimal moire. Full HD can now be captured at 120fps while dynamic range was increased by the new S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3 picture profile setting.

Just like its brothers in the a7 range, the a7S II has the new 5-axis image stabilization that would help in using telephoto lenses or handheld shooting.

Auto-focus has been greatly improved at 169 AF points, compared to the 25 of the previous model, and can read subjects in very dim situations as low as EV-4.

“With the new a7S II, we’ve utilized many of our latest technologies to deliver a camera that will excel in all types of environments, producing still images and video content that will consistently amaze imagine enthusiasts, professional photographers and even Hollywood directors.” said Neal Manowitz, Deputy Vice President of Digital Imaging at Sony.

Other improvements include a redesigned shutter button for better feel, reinforced lens mount and the battery can now be charged via USB while shooting.

The new a7S II will be available in October starting at $3,000. – Rappler.com
