Microsoft: 74 companies to pre-install its apps on Android
MANILA, Philippines – The odds have greatly increased that you’ll be seeing Microsoft apps on your future Android device.
In a blog post on Wednesday, February 10, Microsoft announced that its apps would be part of current and future Android devices from 74 hardware partners in 25 countries, including LG, Samsung, Sony, and Acer.
This means that Microsoft’s apps – such as Office, Skype, and OneDrive – will be hitting a wider number of Android devices in the future.
Comparatively, Engadget notes, this is a marked increase of 31 vendors in the previous year, though the move to do so seems to be more in tune with the "IP alignment” factor than anything else.
Engadget explained, "these companies are bundling Microsoft apps in part to avoid patent disputes over their use of Android.” – Rappler.com
