MANILA, Philippines – Sony appears to be putting its microconsole experiment out to pasture, as it has stopped shipment of the PlayStation TV – known in Japan as PS Vita TV – in Japan and the West.

Kotaku reported Monday, February 29, that the PS Vita TV will cease shipping in Japan. The Japanese PS Vita TV website says the device is no longer being shipped.

CNET, meanwhile, in a report on Tuesday said a spokesperson for Sony confirmed “PS TV shipments were terminated at the end of 2015 in SCEA [Sony Computer Entertainment America] and SCEE [Sony Computer Entertainment Europe].”

With around two years of life behind it, the PlayStation TV was an intriguing device that provided handheld gamers with the ability to play PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 1 games using a Dualshock controller. – Rappler.com
