MANILA, Philippines – Facebook announced late Wednesday, March 9, that its Facebook Lite application has reached 100 million monthly active users 9 months since its global rollout on Android smartphones.
In a post on its Facebook Code blog, the company added that the Philippines is one of the top 5 countries that use Facebook Lite, along with Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Mexico.
Coming in at less than 1MB in filesize, Facebook Lite is meant for users who don’t have the best connections.
The app allows users to stay connected while maintaining a relatively small data footprint. The app currently supports 56 languages and is built to work on Android Gingerbread and 2009-year class devices.
In a press release, Facebook also said it was announcing some new features for the app, including video support, support for multiple photo uploads, pinch-to-zoom for photos, and the ability to use emojis, among others.
Facebook Lite is downloadable from the Google Play Store. – Rappler.com
