MANILA, Philippines – If you’ve got a blogging idea that’s in need of a new domain, Automattic – the owner of WordPress.com – has a new solution you might be interested in.

Automattic announced late Thursday, May 12, that it has “secured the rights to oversee and operate the sale and registration of .blog domains, a new and never-before available top-level domain.” 

Top level domains, such as .com, .net, and now .blog, are the domains on the highest level of the domain name system hierarchy.

The .blog domain’s pricing is currently being finalized, but Automattic says it will be “in the standard range for new top-level domains.” There will also be some premium pricing for higher value names. 

The .blog domain will be available for everyone to purchase this year through wordpress.com or its partner domain name registrars. – Rappler.com
