Xiaomi's 4K video drone actually costs $450
MANILA, Philippines – Contrary to earlier reports of a $600 4K-video taking drone, Xiaomi announced Wednesday, May 25, that its Mi Drone would actually cost less than that.
In an announcement post on the company's forum, Xiaomi said the Mi Drone's price would range from around $380 to $450 based on the video quality. The Mi drone costs 2,499 CNY ($380) for its entry-level 1080p camera-enabled drone. Meanwhile, the 4K camera version will cost 2,999 CNY ($450).
Comparatively, the market leader DJI sells its 4K drones for around $800.
Made by China-based Flymi, the Mi Drone will support 27 minutes of flight.
The Mi Drone can also create a virtual enclosure for itself to keep it within a designated range. The company says it will automatically fly back to its original starting position if it goes beyond its connected range.
According to TechCrunch, the Mi Drone's 1080p model will be crowdfunded via the MiHome app from May 26, while the 4K drone will be tested using an open beta program at the end of July. There's no word yet on a release outside China. – Rappler.com
