MANILA, Philippines – Images of what could be the refreshed version of the Sony PlayStation 4 have leaked online through games website Polygon.com.

The US-based media outfit posted the photos in an article released Sunday, August 21. According to Polygon, the images were from a seller on Gumtree.com, an online auction site.

The article had a link to the Gumtree post, but clicking on it now leads to a page saying the ad is no longer available. The photos remain on Polygon’s site, however.

The PlayStation has had a long history of being “slimmed down” as the console progresses through its life cycle. The PS1, PS2, and PS3 all had slim versions that featured a sleeker look and more compact footprint. If the leaked photos really show the real thing, Sony’s current-gen flagbearer could be getting the same treatment.

Polygon also noted that while Sony had announced a new PS4 model called the “Neo” back in June, they could not confirm if the leaked images here are indeed the Neo.

A media event for the Neo, said to be happening on September 7 (US time) at Times Square in New York, should provide the confirmation. – Rappler.com
