Google announces Wifi networking hub, Home assistant
Google's home innovations aim to make Google and its AI-powered assistant a bigger part of your home life

MANILA, Philippines – Google on Tuesday, October 4 (October 5, Manila time), showed off two new bits of tech that aim to make Google a bigger part of a user’s home life: Google Wifi and Google Home.

Google Wifi is essentially a networking hub or home router that can be controlled via a smartphone app. You can use multiple units to boost the signal of your home network as well. The Verge added in its report, “It supports AC1200 wireless speeds, as well as simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. It also has beamforming technology and support for Bluetooth Smart.”

Google’s Wifi router can be purchased as a single unit or a pack of 3. One unit will cost $129, while a pack of 3 will set you back $299.

Google Wifi will be available for preorder in the US in November, and will be shipping by December. No international availability was mentioned.

On the home assistant front, Google also announced its Home device, which will also cost $129.

The Google Home acts as a personal assistant that is voice-activated, and can also play music in addition to providing users in your home with information, and can also act as a Chromecast audio receiver.

The assistant on Google Home will apparently be the same as the one your phone uses, so it’s unsure how Google will handle multiple accounts or users.

Google home will also provide a 6-month subscription for YouTube Red upon purchase.

The news comes concurrently with Google’s Pixel smartphone and Daydream View VR headset announcements.
