FB Messenger crashes for thousands of users

MANILA, Philippines – The popular messaging app Facebook Messenger crashed for thousands of users around the world Saturday, September 23.

The app would crash and shut down every time the user tries to launch it. Downdetector.com reported that most of the outages come from the Philippines, Australia, and parts of Europe. 

According to some iPhone users who tweeted about the problem, their initial culprit was the latest update to iOS 11. However, no official statement or fix has been posted about this.

To address this issue, some netizens urged iOS users to delete and reinstall Facebook and Facebook Messenger, and while the solution worked for some, most users are still struggling to make the app work.

A Facebook spokesperson has addressed the incident in a statement sent to Rappler:

“On Friday, September 22, 2017, some people reported having trouble accessing Messenger on iOS. We quickly investigated, and we have released an update. If you continue to experience problems please look in the App Store for version 135.1 and uninstall/reinstall the app. We are very sorry for any inconvenience.” – Rappler.com
