New Nokia 3310 with 3G announced
The new version of the revived 3310 will be able to access Facebook and Twitter

MANILA, Philippines – In February, Nokia brand licensee HMD Global revived the iconic Nokia 3310, much to the delight of nostalgia-loving tech fans around the world.

On Thursday, September 28, the Finnish company announced it will be releasing a new version of the revived Nokia 3310: one that has 3G connectivity. The previous one only had 2G.

With 3G, the 3310 will be able to browse the net at faster speeds, and will be able to access social networks like Facebook and Twitter as well as other apps.

The 3G-equipped version will start rolling out in mid-October, with Australia being one of the first to have it. It will have an average retail price of 69 euros around the world. The original retailed for 49 euros.

Here’s a list of its features:

  • 3G connectivity for calling and texting
  • All-new customizable retro UI
  • Bluetooth 2.1 for pairing with speakers and other phones
  • FM radio and MP3 player for music
  • 64 MB storage1 plus a MicroSD card slot with support for up to 32 GB
  • Single-sim or dual-sim
  • 2 MP camera with LED flash
  • Headphone jack
  • 2.4″ curved window with polarized layer for improved readability in sunlight

Because of the addition of 3G, TechCrunch reported that the new version will have 13% more volume than its predecessor.

Battery life has also been greatly affected, with the 3G version sporting 6.5 hours of talk time, compared to 22.1 hours of talk time for the 2G version. Strangely, the standby time has increased for 3310 3G – 27 days compared to the 25.3 days of the 2G.

The OS also sports some minor differences, with Nokia’s chief product officer Juho Sarvikas tweeting that they had to tweak the OS to step up to 3G.

In addition to yellow and red, the Nokia 3310 3G will introduce two new colors for the series: azure and charcoal.

Do you think the revived 3310 is now more appealing with the addition of 3G? – Rappler.com
