MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Google formally announced at its October 4 event (October 5, Philippine time) the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. 

The Pixel 2 features a 5-inch, full HD OLED display with 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The Pixel 2 XL screen is a 6-inch pOLED screen, with QHD+ and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Pixel 2 lineup has a super fast charging feature, allowing for 7 hours of charge in 15 minutes.

It’ll run pure Android Oreo at the onset.

Featuring an always-on display, the Pixel 2 lineup features on-device machine learning so it can determine things intelligently without needing to send information over the Internet. 

Google’s deep learning, meanwhile, can also identify objects in a scene, such as telling what a building is made out of. 

The Pixel 2’s camera has the highest ranking from DXOMark, at 98. The phone camera will also support augmented reality stickers, which was showcased during the event with a Stranger Things 2 sticker set.

Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL camera provide greater high dynamic range and optical image stabilization. The computational photography of the phones allow for a portrait mode using but dual-sensor image technology, but without a second camera.

The Google Pixel 2 starts at $649 to start with 64GB of storage. The Pixel 2 XL will start at $849. The Pixel 2 will be initially available US, Australia, Germany, India, UK, and Canada, with the Pixel 2 XL coming to Singapore, Italy, and Spain later on. 

Google also announced some accessories for the device, namely the newest iteration of the Google Daydream View virtual reality headset – available for $99 – and the Google Pixel Buds, which actually allows for real-time Google translation.

The Pixel Buds will be available for $159.
