Lenovo Z5 teaser images show notch-free all-screen phone

MANILA, Philippines – Lenovo seems to be going against the polarizing trend of including a notch, made popular by the iPhone X, in their new soon-to-be-released smartphone. A recent teaser shared by Lenovo vice president, Chang Cheng on Chinese social media site, Weibo shows a sketch of the Z5 flaunting what looks to be a true all-screen phone.

First reported by CNET, the image is accompanied by a caption that when translated calls the Z5 as Lenovo’s next flagship. The image clearly shows the phone having thin bezels and free of the controversial notch, which is the trade off for increased screen size. Lenovo has not revealed details where it will place the front-facing camera and earpiece, often situated in the notch.

This is already the second teaser image recently shared by the company. Lenovo first released a render showing just a part of the upcoming Z5 boasting a 95% screen-to-body ratio, shown above.

Aside from what’s been mentioned, Cheng claims that “four technological breakthroughs” and “18 patented technologies” were achieved for the phone. He hasn’t detailed any of these yet.

Vivo at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) revealed the Apex, a concept phone that prides itself in having bezels that are the “thinnest in the industry”. With production only beginning in the middis year, Lenovo could easily beat them to the punch if these teasers are indicative of a nearing launch. – Rappler.com
