Toys ‘R’ Us to sell iconic mascot, adult website domain names

MANILA, Philippines – Toys ‘R’ Us, the toy store chain which recently declared bankruptcy, is auctioning off its intellectual assets to repay creditors. The items for sale include its iconic mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe, the Babies ‘R’ Us brand, and a number of adult website domain names.

According to Reuters, the retail brand has over a hundred website addresses up for sale. Some of the domain names include sex-toys-r-us.com, kinkytoysrus.com and adult-toys-r-us.com.

“They just went crazy,” said brand specialist, Bob Phibbs. “I’m sure they were laughing and drinking Red Bull and then just came up with every iteration they could.”

Meanwhile, there are those that are entirely unrelated to toys such as lodges-r-us.com, bistros-r-us.com, recipes-r-us.com, burgers-r-us.com and even cigars-r-us.com.

“It shows the power of the brand,” Phibbs added. “The ‘R’ Us is the key to the brand, not the Toys.

These domain names are often registered to ensure that no one else acquires them and sabotages the brand or the business. As of writing, none of the domain names are active.

Fortune reported individual stores and warehouses are expected to begin closing their doors this week; the sale of the intellectual assets, meanwhile, is scheduled for next month.

As previously reported, the Philippine chain of Toy ‘R’ Us stores will remain unaffected by the US closure. – Rappler.com
