Will Apple bundle fast USB-C chargers with 2018's iPhones?
MANILA, Philippines – A recent report points to the possibility of Apple's 2018 iPhones having bundled fast USB-C chargers.
The report on Wednesday, May 16, from ChargerLab says this year's iPhone iteration will come with an 18-watt USB-C-to-lightning fast chargers in the box. Previous iterations of the iPhone have come with chargers with a 5-watt output.
USB-C delivers power faster than the USB-A configuration Apple has traditionally used.
ChargerLab's report follows a similar assertion from China's Weibo which said the phones would come with USB-C chargers as well as a USB-C-to-lightning cable in the box.
Both the iPhone 8 and X support fast charging, but the chargers they currently come packed with aren't able to take advantage of this capability.
The only problem, however, is that historically, these claims have not come true. Instead, as Venturebeat reports, Apple makes fast chargers and their corresponding USB-C cables for sale at higher prices – as separate accessories not bundled with the phone.
Whether or not this new report holds true will depend on Apple's next announcements said to be in June, but the hope is that instead of selling the chargers on the side, they bundle the faster chargers with the devices. – Rappler.com
