YouTube Music, YouTube Premium launched
YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are set to compete against Spotify and Netflix. It's currently available in select regions, but a wider rollout is expected

MANILA, Philippines –  Google’s launched a rebranding and splitting up of what was formerly known as YouTube Red. Now known as YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, the services aim to provide quality music streaming and video content much like Spotify and Netflix.

YouTube Music is the music streaming side of the equation. Google, in its announcement, said YouTube Music will have “official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus YouTube’s tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can’t find anywhere else – all simply organized and personalized.”

YouTube Music focuses on being a recommendation engine for users to discover new music. YouTube Music has a personalized home screen which recommends music based on a user’s listening history, as well as where they are and what they’re doing.

YouTube Premium, meanwhile, is YouTube Music’s ad-free version, along with original series and movies from YouTube.

YouTube Music has a free ad-supported version, along with a $9.99 ad-free version. YouTube Premium, meanwhile, which has YouTube Music baked in, costs $11.99.

YouTube Music and YouTube Premium will be available in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea. It will also be heading to Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Additional expansion is expected moving forward. – Rappler.com
