New Nokia X6 adopts the notch like many Android phones this year
MANILA, Philippines - HMD Global, the Finnish company behind the current Nokia brand of phones, recently unveiled the China-exclusive X6, sporting an iPhone X-like notch. It’s the first phone from the company to sport the controversial display cutout, a design choice that was made to minimize bezel size and let its 5.8-inch FHD+, 19:9 aspect ratio display shine – just as it was for the iPhone X.
Other phones to have brought the notch to their own display are the Oppo F7, Asus Zenfone 5, the Huawei P20 and a number of lower profile phones from Chinese manufacturers. (LOOK: 10 iPhone X clones from China)
The Nokia X6 comes has a 16-megapixel (MP) front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a dual-camera setup at the back made of another 16MP f/2.0 camera and a 5MP monochrome sensor. All cameras come with the in-app AI and HDR support.
Under the hood, the Nokia X6 houses a midrange Snapdragon 636 chip, 4GB RAM with a choice between 32GB or 64GB of storage space, and microSD support of up to 256GB. There is a higher-end variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
On top of this, it features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock support, and a USB-C port that reportedly can charge 50% of the phone’s battery in 30 minutes. It ships with Android 8.1 Oreo but could soon get upgraded to Android P.
The phone is officially releasing in China on May 21 with the starting price of CNY1,299 (P10,653) for the 4GB / 32GB option. The mid-tier 4GB/64GB option retails for CNY1,449 (P11,883); while the higher-end 6GB/64GB option goes for CNY1,699 (~P13,933).
There are currently no plans for an international release but, HMD Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas teased its possibility with a tweet containing a poll, asking if they should bring the X6 to other markets. Majority have voted “Yes” and it may be just a matter of time before the Nokia X6 is released for the rest of the world. – Rappler.com
