MANILA, Philippines – You will soon be able to “mute” people or accounts on Instagram that you don’t like seeing on your feed, Instagram announced on their website Tuesday, May 22, US time. 

By muting a page, you will no longer see their posts on the main feed of Instagram without having to unfollow them. The posts of  muted accounts can still be seen by going to their profile page. Muted accounts will not be notified when they’ve been muted, and they can continue to tag you in the comments section or posts.

Aside from posts on the main feed, posts on Instagram Stories can also be muted. Users have the option of muting main feed posts only, Instagram Stories posts only or both main feed and Instagram Stories. 

There are several ways to mute an account. On a post, a user can click on the “…” icon, which will bring up the options to mute the particular account. Users can also long-press on a user on the Instagram Stories tray in the top portion of the app or click the “…” option on a profile page, which will bring up the same muting options.

Like most new Instagram features, the feature will be rolled out to users in a staggered manner, with some users getting it earlier than others. – Rappler.com
