2 Philippine startups to compete at Hong Kong tech conference
MANILA, Philippines – Two Philippine startups will be competing at the Pitch startup contest to be held at the Rise Conference in Hong Kong from July 8 to 11: Bookgini and Burket.ph.
Bookgini is a platform that wants to make it easier for authors to publish their books. It describes its service as a "new, inexpensive way to publish your book" and one that also seeks to help writers with "ISBN and copyright registration, cover design, and editing."
The company, on its website, says it has been "leading the charge to liberate publishing from the shackles of industry giants who make big profits selling publishing packages" that it says, could sometimes leave the author shortchanged. It wants to allow authors to be able to publish by themselves at quantities they need and can afford.
The other startup is Burket.ph, which describes itself as an "online business-to-business market network that intelligently matches relevant products or services to the right buyer." It is essentially an online marketplace or social network for business owners looking to either purchase goods or supplies for their business or sell to other businesses.
Burket.ph said its main advantage is that it has a smart component that allows it to "automatically match products, promos, ads, supplier updates, and product updates to the buyers of the same interest or industry."
The system is able to feed the most relevant products to a business owner's news feed as it learns the profile of the user. This, according to Burket.ph, lessens the "clutters of unrelated products" for the user.
The pitching competition begins on Tuesday, July 9, with the finals to be held on Thursday, July 11.
Bookgini and Burket.ph will be competing with 50 other startups from all over the world. Among the judges are GIPHY founder and chief executive officer Alex Chung, Lenovo global chief information officer Arthur Hu, and several other executives and partners from global accelerators. – Rappler.com
