Chinese manufacturer Huawei is set to unveil one smartphone and two tablets at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

MANILA, Philippines — China-based smartphone manufacturer Huawei is gearing up to launch four new devices at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona which starts Monday, February 24.

Last week Huawei promised to “amaze the world” via a cheeky video that poked fun at Apple and Samsung. The video left clues about the new devices: a new tablet with a slim design and a battery that gives you days of use, a smartphone with an amazing front camera, a new multimedia tablet, and a device supports next-gen LTE.

Then on Twitter, the company posted an image with outlines of the four new devices. Consistent with the clues it left on the video teaser, Huawei is set to release one smartphone, two tablets, and what looks like an LTE-A mobile hotspot.

ASCEND G6

While there have been rumors of two smartphones, the smartphone that will be unveiled at MWC will most probably the Ascend G6. The G6 is seen as the mid-range version of its current flagship the Ascend P6. The phone will share the same form factor as the P6 but will come with pared down specs, a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5 inch display with a 960 x 540 resolution, an 8 megapixel main camera and 5 megapixel front facing camera.

Last week, notable Twitter tipster @evleaks posted photos of the new phone revealing the G6 will come in blue, gold, pink, white and black. The leak also suggests that the phone will come in other color variations with pink, gold, copper and silver bands.

ASCEND P7

Huawei is also prepping the release of a new flagship smartphone the Ascend P7.

Details about the phone are still sketchy but many expect it to have a 5-inch Full HD display, powered by a 1.6Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Ascend P7’s standout feature is supposed to be its 13MP and 8MP main and front facing cameras with dual LED flash.

Images of the device leaked on Chinese social network Weibo reveal the phone will be available in pink, gold, white and black. The devices will come with brushed aluminum back plates and appear thinner than their predecessor the P6.

MEDIAPAD X1

Huawei’s multimedia tablet will be called the MediaPad X1, a premium 7-inch tablet with a 7-inch 1200 x 1920 resolution display. Powered by a 1.6GHz HiSilicon 910 processor, 2GB of RAM and with either 16 or 32GB of internal storage, the tablet will also sport a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 6,000 mAh battery.

Leaked photos of the MediaPad X1 remind us of the Starmobile Diamond X1. The tablet will come with an aluminum backplate with white plastic bands on both its top and bottom. The phone will also support flip cases with windows that allow the device to display relevant information.

MEDIAPAD M1 8.0

The Mediapad M1 8.0 is Huawei’s premium tablet. The 8-inch device will be powered by a 1.6Ghz ARM Cortex A9 quad-core processor. Very little is known about the device, but images leaked on @evleaks on Sunday reveal what looks like an aluminum tablet reminiscent of the HTC One.

According to the International Data Corporation, Huawei is the 3rd largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of phones shipped in 2013 behind Samsung and Apple.  —  Rappler.com
