Sony's SmartBand knows when you are walking, driving or cycling, measures your sleep, counts steps and calculates calorie burn

Manila, Philippines – We first saw Sony’s SmartBand at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with a promise that we’d hear more in Barcelona.

At Sony’s Mobile World Congress event on Monday, February 24, Sony Mobile President and CEO Kunimasa Suzuki, announced that they will bring the SmartBand “to market this spring” promising, “the SmartBand and its innovative core will extend beyond fitness tracking.”

Sony’s SmartBand attempts to go beyond logging normal physical activities by leveraging its LifeLog platform to act as a personal assistant, taking note of everything that you do. This may include books that you’ve read or movies that you’ve seen.

The band works in tandem with your Android smartphone and will vibrate if you get a message or a call. It knows when you are walking, driving or cycling and can also measure the quality of your sleep. It counts your steps and also calculates calorie burn.

Sony SmartBand is designed to be waterproof and will come in nine different vibrant colors, including blue, orange, yellow and pink. Although Sony has not released exact pricing information, the company has promised to ship the SmartBand to 60 countries next month.
