Samsung unveils Galaxy S5 with world's fastest autofocus smartphone camera
MANILA, Philippines — Samsung officially announced its latest flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5 at its Unpacked Episode 1 event at the 2014 Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain on Monday, February 24 (February 25 in Manila).
Samsung’s new smartphone looks very much its predecessors the Galaxy S3 and S4 with the same rounded corders, aluminum band and plastic construction but distinguishes itself with a faux leather back plate with a perforated patter, similar to the Galaxy Note 3.
The S5 is slightly taller than the S4 because of its larger 5.1-inch screen, it is also ever so slightly thicker at 8mm and heavier.
The Galaxy S5 standout features and an improved camera with fast autofocus, a fingerprint scanner, a water resistant and dust proof design, and fitness tools including a heart rate monitor.
Samsung claims the S5s camera has the world’s fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds using a feature called phase detection autofocus. The new smartphone improves on the 13MP camera on the S4 with a 16 megapixel main camera with a slightly larger 1/2.5-inch image sensor. Like the Galaxy Note 3 the S5 can shoot 4K video.
Samsung has also given the S5 a major spec upgrade including the latest 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution.
The S5 will be available in black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold and will be available go on sale globally in April.
