Despite lukewarm response to the Yoga Tablet 8, Lenovo unveils the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ a tablet that can hold, tilt and stand

MANILA, Philippines — Despite receiving lukewarm response for the Yoga Tablet 8, Lenovo isn’t giving up on its Android tablet series anytime soon. The Chinese tech company recently unveiled the latest addition to its tablet family, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+.

Unlike its predecessors, this spiffed up version of the Yoga Tablet comes with a quad-core 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and a 1920×1200 screen resolution. With 2GB of internal memory and an 8-megapixel front-end camera, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is a huge improvement compared to past models which only sported a 1280×800 resolution, a weak 1.2GHz MediaTek processor, and just 1GB of RAM.

The Yoga 10 HD+ features the same non-traditional design of the other Yoga devices. With its cylindrical battery, the tablet can be used in 3 modes called “Hold, Tilt, and Stand.” Hold mode means using the tablet normally, while Tilt mode allows the user to incline the device for better typing. Using the flip-open kickstand in its rear, users can position the device in Stand more for better viewing of videos and keyboard use.

The device runs on Android Jellybean 4.3 but Lenovo promised an “over the air” update to Kitkat Android 4.4 after its release. It also has a preinstalled software suite called “DOit,” comprised of 3 programs: wireless sharing app SHAREit, malware shield and privacy app, SECUREit, and camera app SNAPit.

Yoga 10 HD+ boasts of a remarkable battery life of 18 hours, longer than the iPad Air which lasts up to 13 hours.

“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Lenovo to deliver premium mobile experiences with superior battery life,” said Luis Pineda, an executive of Snapdragon-creators Qualcomm Technologies.

The tablet’s external storage can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD chip. Connectivity features include 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, and HSPA+ 42 Mbps compatibility.

The 16 GB WiFi version of the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ will be available for $349 starting April. It will come in either silver or “champagne” gold.  — Rappler.com
