7-inch Galaxy W is Samsung’s biggest smartphone yet
Basically a Galaxy Tab with phone functionality, the Korea-only Galaxy W is bigger than any smartphone but still falls a little short

MANILA, Philippines – Talking about blurring the lines between smartphone and tablet.

If you thought the phablet concept was confusing wait and till you hear about Samsung’s latest smartphone, the 7-inch Galaxy W.

Announced on Monday, June 2, the Galaxy W is Samsung’s largest phone yet.

Aesthetically the phone is almost identical to Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab and shares the same form factor as the rest of Samsung’s smartphone lineup, a plastic device with curved edges, a capsule like home button and with the now-standard leather-textured back cover.

Taking advantage of the device’s large display the phone features software also found on the Galaxy Note including split-screen functionality, pop-up play and multi-window view.

Positioned as a mid-range smartphone for those who need/want a larger screen, the phone sports a 720p display. Under the hood Samsung has also got us hanging; a 1.2Ghz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, a 3,200mAh battery and a dated OS Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

These specs look pretty solid – if compared to a mid-2013 device. Its recently announced contemporaries like the Asus Fonepad8 are already on the Android 4.4 with a 1.8Ghz processor.

Storage is pretty standard at 16GB with external support of up to 64GB, plenty of room for music, videos and photos that can be shot with its two cameras – an 8mp rear and 2mp front.

The only upside here is the LTE-A connectivity for next-gen speeds.

The Galaxy W is currently only available in South Korea and comes in black, white or red for 499,400 won, approximately $490. – Rappler.com
