MANILA, Philippines – Google I/O, the company’s annual development conference, will begin with a keynote speech June 25, at 9:00 am PDT (12:00 am June 26 Philippine time).

While Google has remained quiet regarding any upcoming offerings, there is plenty of speculation to go around.

Here’s a roundup of what people will want to watch out for at Google I/O.

Google wearables, fitness tech

One running speculative theme points toward Google revealing more details on wearable technology at Google I/O.

It was earlier announced that Google was branching out into wearables with its Android Wear, most notably in the form of a smartwatch.

Forbes notes that the watches themselves may be the spotlight, but also points to the possibility that it may be the apps that might take center stage, with Google announcing its own fitness tracking system meant for Android devices.

Android 5.0?

Google I/O occurs 9 months after the announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, and TechRadar surmises that a new generation of Android may also be in line for an announcement.

TechRadar’s report mentions that the timing for a new update is right, as we seem to be overdue for an update.

They noted, “Android updates happen every five to eight months; Ice Cream Sandwich came out eight months after Honeycomb and Jelly Bean 4.1 came out eight months after ICS. Jelly Bean 4.2, 4.3 and KitKat 4.4 averaged five months between them.”

New tablets and phones

Mashable took stock of rumors regarding a possible phone or tablet announcement as well.

According to their roundup, There could be an 8 or 8.9-inch Nexus tablet in the future, and those may also be the last of the line.

Part of the speculation points to Google renaming the program “Android Silver” and changing the mission of the program accordingly.

Android TV

An Android set-top box for televisions is also being touted as a potential announcement.

The Verge, citing the Wall Street Journal, says an Android TV box is a machine that will allow for both the purchasing of media content and applications, including games.

Google Glass and Project Ara

Finally, two other potential announcements might be developments for Google Glass, as well as updates on the modular cellphone project Project Ara.
