MANILA, Philippines – Sony announced Tuesday, August 12 (August 13 Philippine time), that it was introducing an enhanced feature to the PlayStation 4, allowing users who don’t own a game to remotely play or take over for a friend who owns the game they’re playing.

The feature, known as Share Play, was introduced at Germany’s Gamescom video game conference and is slated to be introduced in the fall as part of system software update v2.00.

Share Play will create an online local cooperative experience that lets one player invite a friend online to join the game he’s playing, whether or not the other player owns a copy of the game. In games where more than one person can play, your friend can play with you or against you without needing to own the game.

The Share Play feature also enables remote assistive play. This lets a friend – whom you’ve remotely invited to join you online – take over the controls for a game on his PlayStation 4 unit, allowing the two of you to trade places in a single-player game between spectator and gamer.

Sony also announced that system software update v2.00 will also include YouTube app support and support for video uploads to YouTube. The What’s New feature of the PlayStation 4 will get enhanced real-time activity feeds, thanks to suggestions of friends of your friends. A real name search function will also be added.

Sony also said during its press conference that the PlayStation 4 had sold more than 10 million units worldwide, along with over 30 million PS4 games, since it launched less than 9 months ago. – Rappler.com
