Nintendo, DeNA, team up for mobile games
Nintendo and DeNA's alliance lets the two make new original games optimized for smart devices using Nintendo's intellectual properties

MANILA, Philippines –Nintendo and Japanese mobile gaming firm DeNA are joining forces to make Nintendo games for the mobile scene, as well as pointing to the development of a new mystery gaming system.

According to a press release from DeNA, the team-up will complement Nintendo’s dedicated video game systems business by reaching for smart device users worldwide. DeNA, on its end, will strengthen its gaming business globally by leveraging Nintendo IP.

The alliance of Nintendo and DeNA specifically allows the two to make only new original games optimized for smart devices, rather than ports of existing games made for the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS game machines. The alliance also allows for all Nintendo intellectual properties to be eligible for development and exploration.

A company press conference also revealed the development of a new gaming system called the NX, which The Next Web reported would have all-new hardware and a novel gameplay concept.

Nintendo and DeNA plan to make an online membership service that can be accessed from smart devices, PCs, and Nintendo consoles and handhelds. This service – targeted for a fall 2015 launch – will be built on DeNA’s experience with online membership services.

The two companies have also invested in each other as part of the alliance. Nintendo and DeNA both invested approximately 22 billion yen ($181 million) in each other. This equates to around 10% of DeNA stock for Nintendo, and around 1.24% of Nintendo’s stock. – Rappler.com
