LG touts release of LG G4 smartphone
The LG G4 is revealed at an event in Singapore

SINGAPORE – LG Electronics revealed its much-awaited LG G4 smartphone on Wednesday, April 29, via launch events in New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Istanbul, and Seoul.

Weighing 155 grams, the LG G4 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with X10 LTE and 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, carrying 32 GB of space that’s expandable with a microSD slot.

The LG G4 will run Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The G4’s display is a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS Quantum Display supporting 2560 x 1440 resolution at 538 pixels per inch.

The IPS Quantum Display promises improved color accuracy, brightness, and contrast over other offerings in the past year.

The G4 also takes advantage of a replaceable 3,000 mAh battery, reportedly providing more than a day’s worth of use on a single charge. The device is protected with a genuine leather backing.

Meanwhile, the smartphone takes advantage of a 16-megapixel camera with F1.8 aperture combined with a larger sensor for better camera shots in low-light conditions.

The camera also takes advantage of a color spectrum sensor, which recognizes light and objects to detect better color. It reads RGB light and infrared light.

It also has an 8 megapixel selfie camera with an F2.0 aperture.

The G4 also sports a quick shot mode by clicking a button on the rear end. The phone is also meant to be quickly responsive, allowing the G4 to go from rest mode to taking pictures in 0.6 seconds.

LG G4 includes a manual mode, which allows users to save photos in either a RAW format or .JPG format. Manual mode allows for ISO adjustment, white balancing and shutter speed adjustments.

Additional features

In a live blog of the New York event, CNET also noted that the phone’s slim arc design provides 20% more durability than flat smartphones.

Smart Notices tell users of rogue apps that remain on when the phone is off. This helps save up to 11% of battery life.

Google will give every G4 owner 100GB of storage in Google Drive for two years. Google apps are also pre-installed, and G4 users can log into the phone with their Google ID rather than an LG ID.

In a statement, Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said that the company was “living up to our promise of Innovation for a better life with a fashionable, premium smartphone that is more focused on delivering a balanced user experience that can compete with the best of the best.”

“We wanted to give consumers a truly human-centric device that combined the analog sensibilities with technologies that delivered real world performance. From the design to the camera to the display to the UX, this is the most ambitious phone we’ve ever created,” he added.

The LG G4 will begin its global rollout on April 29 in Korea. It will eventually be made available on approximately 180 carriers worldwide, with pricing and carrier availability to be announced locally in each market. Rappler.com
