YouTube Newswire to offer verified eyewitness news videos
YouTube Newswire aims to 'provide journalists with an invaluable resource to discover news video around major events, and to highlight eyewitness video that offers new perspectives on important news stories'

MANILA, Philippines – Google announced on June 18 that video service YouTube was working with Storyful to provide users with a curated feed of newsworthy eyewitness video accounts.

Dubbed YouTube Newswire, the new service hopes “to provide journalists with an invaluable resource to discover news video around major events, and to highlight eyewitness video that offers new perspectives on important news stories.”

YouTube Newswire will also provide global and regional feeds for different parts of the world. Journalists at Storyful will be curating the content on the service.

At the same time, Google has also come up with another effort, called The First Draft Coalition.

The First Draft Coalition will build resources that will let users learn how to verify eyewitness media. Along with this comes training for learning the ethics of considering the use of eyewitness video in reporting news.

YouTube Newswire is already live and available on YouTube as its own channel, while The First Draft Coalition’s site will launch in fall of this year. The First Draft Coalition currently has a Medium page with guides and stories related to citizen journalism. – Rappler.com
