Japan accepts US giant robot duel challenge
Suidobashi Heavy Industry accepts the duel challenge from Megabots, but wants to add melee combat to the duel aside from a gun battle

MANILA, Philippines – Japan and the US have agreed to a giant robot battle some time in the far future.

US giant robot maker MegaBots Inc challenged Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industry on June 30 to a shooting duel using paintguns.

“Suidobashi. You have a giant robot, we have a giant robot,” exclaims one of MegaBots’ members. “You know what needs to happen.”

On Monday, July 6, Suidobashi responded by agreeing to a duel.

“We can’t let another country win this. Giant robots are Japanese culture,” said Suidobashi’s robot creator, Kogoro Kurata.

While details on an actual fight date are scant, Suidobashi’s side wants to add to the original stakes of the fight by adding melee combat into the mix.

“I want to punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it,” Kurata expounded.

Suidobashi Heavy Industry has had a robot since 2012. The Kuratas is 13 feet tall, weighs 4 tons, and has a number of weapons at its disposal. These include a smile-activated BB gatling gun.

Meanwhile, MegaBots, which unsuccessfully tried to crowdfund a bot-battling sport, has the MegaBot Mk. II, a 15-foot tall mech that uses tank treads to get around. The Mk. II also sports twin paintball guns for arms. – Rappler.com
