Let’s take a look at the conversation, its leaders, and what people are saying about #2030NOW and #TheLeaderIWant

MANILA, Philippines – The Social Good Summit is an annual global conversation which tackles the use of technology to build a better future.

In its fourth year holding the summit in the country, Rappler focused on the theme Innovation + Social Good with its emphasis on Global Goals and #TheLeaderIWant. The Summit aimed to bridge the gap between the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and how the leaders we choose in the upcoming elections can help us reach them.

Every year, the event’s hashtag, #2030Now, trends on Twitter and this year, 2015, wasn’t any different. Using Rappler’s social dashboard Reach, we were able to visualize the discussion on the day itself and the roles of the key players during the conversation.

Let’s take a look at the conversation, its leaders, and what people are saying about #2030NOW and #TheLeaderIWant.

IN NUMBERS

On the day itself, the conversation generated 330,502,647 impressions, which means over 330 million people saw the hashtags on their feeds.

The conversation peaked at 4:45pm with over 16 million impressions. It was around this time that the segment for #TheLeaderIWant started during the Philippine Social Good Summit. The conversation centered on the leaders who are expected to draw the nation’s blueprint and lead Filipinos towards reaching their goals by 2030.

Overall, the conversation during the day had a total of 11,067 tweets from over 4,634 people who participated in the conversation, even momentarily displacing the social media sensation and kalyeserye AlDub.

THE INFLUENCERS

Looking at the big picture, we can see some users creating hubs and their own communities during the conversation.

The notable and distinct clusters include Rappler, Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, teen Filipino celebrity Kenzo Gutierrez from Pinoy Big Brother, Plus SocialGood, UNDP Mongolia, Rappler’s civic engagement arm MovePH, and Dingdong Dantes, among others.

Let’s narrow down these accounts and the roles they play.

BROADCASTERS

This first set of users are the broadcasters. They are the users who have the widest audiences and provide fuel for the conversation. As the name implies, they disseminate information though not necessarily have the highest engagement.

Here are tweets from some of the day’s top broadcasters:

Another possible function is that they receive the most mentions during the conversation, creating the hubs around them. Senator Bam Aquino, for example was mentioned 283 times despite only authoring 5 tweets. Meanwhile, Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo was mentioned 218 times. Both were speakers at the summit.

Here are the top tweets mentioning them:

The Reach visualization also illustrates the global reach of the conversation. Some of the broadcasters outside of the Philippines are notable personalities like actress Laverne Cox from Orange is the New Black, singer Jennifer Lopez, and Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States.

Apart from the personalities, various organizations and institutions also drove the conversation such as Mashable, UN Foundation, USAID, and Mashable Social Good.

LINKERS

Another set of users identified by Reach are the linkers. Linkers are responsible for bridging the different hubs and communities together.

As expected, majority of the linkers are organizations since they are usually the ones with the most diverse set of followers and are better suited to connect between different communities.

NICHE

Lastly, we have our niche communities, which are small yet highly engaged communities.

One of the niches is Rappler’s Voltaire Tupaz of MovePH. Check out some of the connections and mentions he received that day:
