Cayetano, the 'Duterte whisperer'? Netizens react to forum guests
MANILA, Philippines – Only one presidential-vice presidential tandem attended Rappler's #TheLeaderIWant Forum on Wednesday, January 20, but the event made quite a mark on social media, generating over 700 million Twitter impressions and earning top trending status nationwide.
So what were netizens a-twitter about?
One of the most common sentiments was disappointment over the absence of the other invited tandems, and admiration for the lone tandem that did show up: Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.Duterte-Cayetano
There were also several users who took note of the chemistry between Duterte and Cayetano. While some criticized the pair as lopsided, with Duterte appearing to depend on Cayetano to clarify his points, others lauded the pair's seemingly tag-team dynamic.
The senatorial bets were not immune to opinions online, either.
Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares, who focused his airtime on economics and agriculture, was described as level-headed and uncontroversial by netizens.
Lawyer Lorna Kapunan was touted as a firecracker, prone to clever quips and grand pronouncements. Whether this was good or bad depended on who was listening.
Finally, some found Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez to be insincere, and eager to mention the tragedy of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). Yolanda devastated Romualdez's province in 2013.Romualdez at Forum
