#LabanLeni trends after Robredo decides to quit as housing czar
MANILA, Philippines – The hashtag #LabanLeni again became a Twitter trending topic on Sunday, December 4, following Vice President Leni Robredo's decision to resign as President Rodrigo Duterte's housing czar.
#LabanLeni had first trended as Filipinos awaited the results of the tightly contested vice presidential race last May.
This time, Robredo's supporters urged her to stay strong, especially amid reports of an alleged plot to oust her. (READ: FULL TEXT: 'I will not allow the Vice Presidency to be stolen' – Robredo)
Leni is one of the few Filipino politicians that I can actually look up to. Please don't give up. #LabanLeni— Kopi (@kopidomasig) December 4, 2016
Im sorry but Philippine Government today is disgusting! I cannot tolerate it anymore! I voted for my VP #LabanLeni— Noel Mata (@NoelMata27) December 4, 2016
You know what, maybe this administration doesn't deserve a genuine public servant like Leni. Magsama-sama silang mga trapo. #LabanLeni— Tad/Paul (@breakingtad) December 4, 2016
We demand our President Duterte to respect this nation's vote. Let VP Leni serve this country. #LabanLeni— Nica Aguilar (@nicaxaguilar) December 4, 2016
Some also thought it was improper that Duterte's order for Robredo to stop attending Cabinet meetings was relayed only through text message.
Leni Robredo was told to stop attending Cabinet meeting thru text messages is the most immature thing I have ever heard. HAY NAKO— Beni (@benicagnzls) December 4, 2016
For all his public bravado, coward Duterte can't even muster the courage to tell VP to her face he wants her out of his Cabinet. #LabanLeni— Jonathan Castillo (@tatancast) December 4, 2016
Mrs. Robredo was forced out of the cabinet via a text message. They didn't even have the courage to tell it to her face. Pathetic #LabanLeni— Ivan Pulanco (@IvanAtHome) December 4, 2016
Others denounced Duterte as they expressed support for Robredo.
DUTERTE AND HIS MEN ARE LABANDERO BULLIES WHO WASH THEIR HANDS CLEAN, SPIN EVERYTHING & THEN HANG THE VP OUT TO DRY. ANG SAMA NYO #LABANLENI— Ton Clemente (@TodoNaTon) December 4, 2016
A Vice President who is trying to help in silence is a best leader than a Pres. who only works to continuously divide a country. #LabanLeni— Mark Victor P. Orain (@mArky049_orAin) December 4, 2016
When Duterte said change is coming, he meant real change from the old Philippines. Having no democracy and women empowerment. #LabanLeni— jeff (@frankoceaned) December 4, 2016
Others, in contrast, believe Robredo was not able to oversee the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) well.
So ano nga ba mga significant achievements ni Leni Robredo as Housing Secretary? Di nga, ano nga? #LabanKaDyan— Carly Arzaga (@carleeeeeeeyyy) December 4, 2016
Really who cares if Robredo is fired or she resigned she was a useless incompetent who didn't do her job!— luis buenaflor (@brotherlouieph) December 4, 2016
Pabayaan niyo na si Leni Robredo magresign para mas makapagfocus na siya sa pictorial, modeling career niya.— B E L L E (@iambeabelle) December 4, 2016
Some welcomed Robredo's resignation from the Duterte Cabinet – but for different reasons.
One netizen asked a question that many others are probably asking as well: What's happening?
The thing is I did not vote for robredo nor duterte..,but since they are elected I put my trust in them, now what is happening?— macel ramos (@mr530214) December 4, 2016
