Citizens document #SignUpVsPork on social media

MANILA, Philippines – It’s like August 2013 all over again, but on a smaller scale. 

Just like in the #MillionPeopleMarch held 26 August 2013, groups and individuals alike headed to Manila’s Luneta park to protest against ‘pork,’ made up of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). 

Once again, social media also played an integral part in organizing and documenting the entire event. Netizens posted under the hashtag #SignUpVsPork this time around, in reference to the 6 million signatures against pork that they hope to collect by the end of the event. 

While participants only numbered in the thousands this year, unlike the tens of thousands last year, netizens remained notably active in promoting this year’s rally. 

From the early morning protests at Mendiola by militant groups, to the participants’ signing of the anti-pork petition, to the performances by Bayang Barrios, The Jerks, and Kamikazee, the minutiae of the day was documented via tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram photos.
