Why so skinny?

MANILA, Philippines – It’s clear. We Filipinos are very much emotionally invested in Jollibee. 

Remember that time when #ChickenSad went viral because Jollibee Foods Corporation announced the lack of the popular “Chickenjoy” in some of its stores? How relieved we were when that horror ended.

US-based website Buzzfeed described Jollibee as the “world’s most popular Filipino fast food restaurant.”

“Kung mabait ka, dadalhin kita sa Jollibee (If you behave, I’ll take you to Jollibee).”

Does this phrase sound familiar to you? If yes, you most likely grew up in a Filipino family. We grew up thinking that Jollibee was, in a way, a reward.

As we matured, we learned to love other things. But Jollibee will always be special and familiar. Much like how plastic balloons and ice candies bring nostalgia, Jollibee reminds Filipinos of home wherever they may be in the globe.
