What are the most memorable videos that went viral in YouTube through the years?

MANILA, Philippines – Ten years ago, life was very different.

We passed around CDs with friends to share songs, relied on MTV and prayed-to-goodness they showed our favorite music video next, and sometimes, even had to rent the neighbor’s karaoke for a singing spree.

That all slowly changed when trio Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim came up with the video-sharing website called YouTube. The domain was registered on February 14, 2005

In 2006, Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion.

In honor of the 10th year anniversary of the first YouTube video, Rappler collected some of the most memorable videos that went viral in Youtube through the years.

#1 When one of the founders of YouTube took you to the Zoo

The first YouTube video ever, uploaded April 23, 2005, was a 19-second video clip of Karim’s day at a zoo.

This kicked-off the start of a culture: sharing personal events through moving pictures with the public.

Who knew that a decade later, YouTube would be a certified hit with more than one billion users uploading 300 hours of video every minute?

#2 When the Annoying Orange annoyed everybody

Meet the most annoying of them all: Annoying Orange.

Probably the most famous fruit in Youtube, The Annoying Orange has millions of viewers.

#3 When Charlie bit his brother’s finger

56 seconds of cuteness overload!

Believe it or not, this video of a baby named Charlie biting the fingers of his older brother Harry has been watched for more than 800 million times!

#4 When everybody went crazy on the Harlem Shake

Probably one of the biggest dance craze in 2013, the Harlem Shake started when 5 teenagers from Australia registered on YouTube as TheSunnyCoastSkate, uploaded a video of themselves dancing to a short excerpt from the song ‘Harlem Shake’ by Baauer.

Thousands of YouTube users from all over the world soon started replicating the video, dancing in the most unusual places and wearing crazy outfits.

#5 When the only style that mattered was the Gangnam Style

You probably saw this coming.

Who doesn’t know Psy and his viral music video?

Even if Korean isn’t the universal language, that did not stop Gangnam Style from becoming the most viewed YouTube-video of all time with more than two billion views.
