MANILA, Philippines – Yes, it’s true. You can now post animated GIFs on Facebook!
GIF enthusiasts will remember the date August 29, 2015, as the day Facebook finally started supporting GIFs on its timelines.

The move was a long time coming with social media giant Facebook teasing the possibility of GIF usage by rolling it out on its native chat and Messenger App.
In recent years, GIF-ing has become very popular especially on blogging sites like Tumblr and 9gag. Posting endless loops of animated images has spread to non-blogging platforms like Buzzfeed as well. It has become an easy – and often very funny – way for people to express their emotions online.
Some Facebook pages like The Best of Tumblr have come up with a cheat for Facebook’s previous lack of GIF-hosting ability: posting the GIFs as playable videos.
But Facebook users will now have it easier with the platform displaying GIFs when posted as links from other sites (nope, native GIF uploads will still show up as still images).
Once a GIF is posted it shows up as a still image with a round “GIF” play button. Users can also opt to have any GIFs auto-play when they appear on their timeline by editing their auto-play settings of Facebook videos.

With this latest update, expect more amusing posts to show up on your timeline… the possibilities are endless! – Rappler.com
