MANILA, Philippines – It's now the end of the road for Benigno Aquino III, the president who popularized the "tuwid na daan" (straight path) slogan. He finished his 6-year term on Thursday, June 30, and handed over the reins to Rodrigo Duterte.

"PNoy" quickly trended on twitter, alongside "Digong" and #VPLeni. 

According to Twitter, "PNoy" was mentioned 19,441 times in the past 24 hours, as of 4 pm. Most of the tweets were sent around 11 am, an hour before Duterte took his oath.

Under Aquino's watch, the Philippine economy became one of the best-performing economies in the region.

But it hasn't been an easy ride as well, as issues and crises rocked the administration, including the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013 and the deadly Mamasapano clash in January 2015. (READ: The Aquino Legacy)
