MANILA, Philippines – Philippine politics is much like HBO’s medieval serial drama Game of Thrones.

The 2016 race for the Philippine presidency involves the usual cast of traditional dynasties, the Great Houses that seek power in Westeros. Yet here comes a new character who could vie to be Protector of the Realm: Senator Grace Poe.

Even before the neophyte senator sets her sights on ruling the Seven Kingdoms, her rivals repeatedly raise legal issues to block her possible candidacy. The latest sword is a petition filed against her before the Senate Electoral Tribunal.
