Rappler talks to Team PNoy re-electionist Jun Magsaysay.

MANILA, Philippines – After a 5-year break from politics, Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay Jr. is running for another chance at a senatorial seat.

Jun Magsaysay, 74 years old, has been a part of Congress thrice. He was the representative of Zambales in the House of Representatives in the 1960’s, and then a Senator for two consecutive, untainted terms beginning 1995.

Magsaysay is the oldest candidate in Team PNoy. After turning down an offer to run with Benigno Aquino III’s slate in 2010, he says he accepted the offer because he “felt that he (Aquino) really wanted to pursue more reforms.” In an interview with Rappler, he adds, “It’s a duty. Duty called and I can never say no to public service especially with an honest, endearing, and transparent individual like PNoy.”

He sums up his platform in the acronym H.E.R.O – Honest, Efficient, Responsive, Open government and genuine public service. His platform is also one of improving economic programs, job employment opportunities, and the prudent use of public funds.
