MANILA, Philippines – The Senate Blue Ribbon committee will hear testimonies from Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, principal whistleblower Benhur Luy, and other whistleblowers Marina Sala and Merlina Suñas.
This comes after Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Teofisto “TG” Guingona III issued subpoenas to de Lima and the whistleblowers. The justice secretary cites the confidentiality rule of the Ombudsman for the non-appearance of witnesses in the last hearing. A case of plunder is filed with the Ombudsman against alleged pork barrel mastermind Janet Napoles and several lawmakers, government agency employees and senate staff.
Guingona blasted what he called efforts to “gag and bar” witnesses from appearing before the probe into the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam.
