Typhoon Yolanda, predicted to be of the most catastrophic super typhoons this year, is set to make landfall on Friday, November 8.

In an update, Weather Philippines says Yolanda has become an “extremely catastrophic super typhoon,” and is now “the most powerful of all Super Typhoons for 2013.”

Local government units in the Visayas and parts of Luzon and Mindanao are bracing for the typhoon’s arrival with mass evacuations. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council says local governments in Mindanao also ordered evacuations and class suspensions in low-lying and landslide-prone areas. – Rappler.com
