
MANILA, Philippines – The Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship holds a hearing on the impact of slow and expensive Internet connection Wednesday, May 28.
A quarterly State of the Internet report by cloud services firm Akamai revealed in its Q4 2013 results that the Philippines has an average Internet speed of 2.0 Megabits per second (Mbps).
A year’s worth of analyzed data from Internet metrics firm Ookla says the Philippines has a general Internet speed of around 3.55 Mbps, ranking it as 155th of 190 countries. The data was gathered from April 2013 to March 2014.
The Senate Committee chaired by Senator Bam Aquino discusses about improving the country’s connection to the world wide web.
