Senate hearing on the alleged overpricing of the 11-storey new Makati City Hall II Parking Building

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate Blue Ribbon committee conducted a hearing on the alleged overpricing of the 11-storey new Makati City Hall II Parking Building, Wednesday, August 20.

Vice President Jejomar Binay defended the construction of the building, which began while he was Makati mayor in 2007, even as he admitted that he does not have the details such as the price of the property.

Instead, Binay compared the building allegedly worth P1.56 billion ($36.05 million) with the construction of a house and the printing of T-shirts.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV filed a strongly worded resolution calling for a Senate investigation into the alleged overpricing of a Makati “parking building,” an older city hall building, and “related anomalies” under the leadership of Vice President Jejomar Binay of the country’s financial center.
