7 OUT OF 10 FILIPINOS PUT A LOT OF TRUST IN POPE FRANCIS – SWS
A Social Weather Stations or SWS survey says 7 out of 10 Filipinos trust Pope Francis a lot. 72 percent of Filipinos put a lot of trust in Pope Francis while 12 percent of Filipinos say they have “little trust” in the Catholic leader. Pope Francis’ net trust rating in 2014 rose among people from other religions compared to 2013. Posters of the Holy Father are being taken down a request made by Francis himself.  He said the focus of the visit should be Jesus Christ. In Manila, Cardinal Tagle asked Filipinos to pray for better weather as heavy rain poured in Tacloban. Organizers say there is a possibility the Pope’s Leyte trip may be cancelled due to bad weather.

ABORTION, AFFAIRS TOP MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR FILIPINOS – SURVEY
An international survey says abortion and extra-marital affairs are morally unacceptable for Filipinos. The Pew Research Center’s 2013 Global Attitudes survey says 90 percent of Filipinos  found “married people having an affair” morally unacceptable while 93 percent of Filipinos found “abortion” morally unacceptable, the highest among 40 countries listed.

DMCI: ONLY SC CAN STOP TORRE DE MANILA
Real estate developer DMCI Homes Inc says construction of its condominium overlooking Rizal Park will continue – unless a court stops it. DMCI director for administration Herbert Consunji says, “The only thing that would stop us is a Supreme Court order.” The National Commission for Culture and the Arts issued a cease and desist order saying Torre De Manila “destroys or significantly alters” the view of the historic Rizal Shrine. The public calls the development the a “photobomber” for obstructing the skyline surrounding Rizal Park.

HONG KONG LEADER TAKES HARD LINE ON PUBLIC VOTE IN KEY SPEECH
Hong Kong pro-democracy lawmakers walk out on leader Leung Chun-ying’s annual address Wednesday where he says there would be no deviation from Beijing’s policy on elections. Leung makes no concessions to protesters and questions their “understanding” of the intricacies of politics in the semi-autonomous Chinese city. Leung says Hong Kong’s power originates from Beijing authorities saying it’s not an “absolute autonomy.” Beijing says the candidates for Hong Kong’s first ever public vote for chief executive in 2017 must be vetted by a loyalist committee which campaigners denounce as a “fake democracy”.

NEW CHARLIE HEBDO COVER A ‘TEST OF PATIENCE’: INDONESIAN ISLAMIC GROUP
Moderate Muslims from Indonesia say they’re disappointed by French tabloid Charlie Hebdo’s decision to put the Prophet Mohammed again on its cover but calls for restraint from Muslims. The latest cover shows Prophet Mohammed holding a sign saying “Je suis Charlie”, or “I am Charlie” and the words “all is forgiven” seen above the slogan. The secretary general of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization says the new cover might provoke Muslims. Most Muslims object to any depictions of Mohammed saying such images defy his teachings.
