‘Ang Pagpakalma Sa Unos’: a poetic contemplation on Typhoon Yolanda
Streaming for free in the Philippines from November 6 to 9, Act One presents 'Ang Pagpakalma Sa Unos,' directed by Joanna Vasquez Arong

7 years after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) devastated our islands, its impact still echoes in today’s natural and socioeconomic crises. In commemoration, Act One presented a limited, nationwide screening of the award-winning documentary, Ang Pagpakalma Sa Unos (To Calm the Pig Inside), between November 6 to 13.

Ang Pagpakalma Sa Unos interweaves videos and photographs, reality and lore, to evoke the existential traumas of life amid destruction.

The film had its world premiere at Slamdance 2020, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, then its Philippine premiere at Cinemalaya 2020, where it won the Special Jury Prize.

This documentary was directed by Joanna Vasquez Arong, who produced films in China and Zambia before moving back to the Philippines.
