'Contemporary Bayani': Reversing the overseas hero myth

A former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) devotes her life to protecting fellow domestic helpers from the same injustices she sustained while working abroad.

Contemporary Bayani is a de-romanticized portrait of the OFW experience.

This short documentary was directed by Najeel Barrios, a graduate of the University of the Philippines Film Institute. Growing up with her mother in Muscat, Oman, she always dreamed of telling stories about women and OFWs through documentary and animation.
