Letter from the picket line

MANILA, Philippines - Jovel Rico holds a degree in electronic and communication engineering. He was a faithful employee of Digitel for 14 years. He has 3 children -- aged 8, 6, and 10 months.

Yet he is sleeping on the sidewalk.

Jovel says he was illegally terminated when Digitel merged with PLDT. His union, the Digitel Employee's Union, is fighting for reinstatement with PLDT.

Jovel left his family 3 weeks ago to join the picket in front of PLDT's corporate office in Makati.

It is the longest that Jovel has ever been separated from his family. - Rappler.com
