While rains have stopped here in Barangay Sta Rita, Olongapo City, apprehension continues for its residents who have no homes to return to.

Most seek shelter in Sta Rita Elementary School, but even at this evacuation center there is no water or electricity. Residents have been here for 3 days now.

At its worst, flood water reached the 2nd floor of houses here. Sta. Rita which is located by the river, is the worst hit of 16 barangays in Olongapo City affected by floods. One died here after being swept away by flash floods. Another two in other areas of Olongapo city have died.

This is the worst flooding locals have seen. With Olongapo City mayor Rolen Paulino in the United States, residents are extra concerned with what will happen next. They don’t know when or how to start clean up.

Locals are appealing for food, mattresses and clothes – all of which were swept away by the flood. Their number one need is drinking water. With resources and livelihood gone, rebuilding their homes is only 2nd priority to finding atheir next meal.
