Rappler speaks to Jed Root and Au Mauricio on Jed Root's new creative talent mangement agency in Manila, At East.

MANILA, Philippines – Rappler speaks to Jed Root, the founder of artist management agency Jed Root Inc., and celebrity makeup artist Au Mauricio, managing director of Jed Root’s Manila office, At East.

Root’s group of companies is collectively one of the leading creative talent management agencies in the world. Since 1989, it has been helping photographers, hair stylists, makeup artists, manicurists, production designers, filmmakers, and illustrators get their big breaks and launch their careers, including makeup artist Laura Mercier, ‘The Sartorialist’ Scott Schuman, and photographers Michael Thompson and Mariano Vivanco. Jed Root has launched global offices in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo – and now, Manila.

Root says the Philippines’ improving economic performance and vast “untapped talent” make the country a “breeding ground for homegrown brands.” The Manila office will be Root’s home base in Southeast Asia where he aims to work with people from Singapore, Jakarta, and also Hong Kong and China. Filipino-American makeup artist and business strategist Mauricio heads the Philippine office. Together, Root and Mauricio aim to bring something new to the country’s creative industry.

To be able to work with Root, one of the best creative talent managers to date, is a dream come true for many. Root’s first batch of Filipino artists will include photographers BJ Pascual, Edric Chen, Jason Quibilan, Johann Bona, Mark Nicdao, Mau Mauricio, MJ Suayan and Shaira Luna; stylists Angela Alarcon, Daryl Chang, Pam Quinones, Patrick Galangand Suki Salvador; makeup artists Amanda Padilla, Omar Ermita and Xeng Zulueta; hairstylists Borge Aloba, Cats del Rosario, Celeste Tuviera and Mark Familara; and fashion filmmaker Samantha Lee.
